Highland Games Swiss Championships 2013 cancelled!

Dear athletes, musicians, partner and friends of the Highland Games Swiss Championships

The «wùy ù ay» Highland Games Swiss Championships have been unique in Switzerland and even Europe due to its combination of music and sports competition. Even the typical Scottish weather has become more often a regular guest for the last years.

During the past ten years a varied and entertaining event has been organized for up to 95’000 visitors. The athletes from all over Switzerland and the nearby neighbouring countries developed from amateur to professional athletes in Heavy Events. The Highland Games offered the participants in Piping and Drumming Contests a platform to compete in a national contest, to be judged by official Scottish adjudicators and the opportunity to perform together before an impressive audience.

Our aim to always improve and make the event more attractive year after year, it could be achieved all these years thanks to numerous volunteers. Nevertheless, the expectations from visitors, musicians and athletes towards the organizer have been increasing enormously throughout the past years. As organizer of this event, we have reached a point where one has to reconsider the situation and concept of organizing.

In our opinion the «wùy ù ay» Highland Games Swiss Championships have to take place in a worthy setting. As we consider these circumstances as not existent for the time being, we refrain from carrying out the event 2013 and cancel the Swiss Championships.
